SAN / NAS Integration

SAN / NAS Integration covers the determination of the requirements necessary for transition to SAN (Storage Area Network) and/or NAS (Network Attached Storage) structure, eliminating dependence on DAS (Direct Attach Storage) structure, i.e. disks on the server, along with the services relating to the realization of the design and installation in accord with the requirements identified.

SAN structure enables a physically separate storage unit to be put to use by several servers. Servers connect to the storage unit over a Fiber Switch using special fiber channel cards called HBA (Host Bus Adapter). Because fiber connection is used, the structure allows work at very high speeds (2/4 mbit). Since dependence on the disks on the server is also eliminated, it introduces significant benefits with respect to data management and backup.

NAS structure is used particularly in organizations without a heterogeneous structure so as to enable effective file and printer sharing among clients with different operating systems. The fact that the server used in the NAS structure is managed over the web brings serious facilities in terms of management.
